A young man is recruited to fight for a righteous cause. He
answers the call to arms with enthusiasm and vigor, ready to step foot onto the
battlefield to defend the new truths he has come to believe in. He understands
the dangers, but follows the newfound passion within his heart none the less.
As he enters the conflict zone, the enemy immediately sets an agent of
destruction straight at our young hero. Fearlessly, the young valiant rushes
toward the agent. Mere seconds from the collision, reality sets in: our hero
bares no armor, no sword, no shield, no faith. He has entered the battle ill
equipped to defend himself or his beliefs.
This is the plight facing many young Christians today. Too
many teens fall victim to the charismatic influences of the world outside the
faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, because they are ill equipped to defend
Christianity. Many teens do not understand the principles behind apologetics,
and often times buckle under pressure when confronted by agnosticism. Unable to
respond to the doubts of the world’s value system, three in four teens
(graduating from high school) end up leaving the faith; the world effectively
assimilating them.
I Peter 3:15 (NIV) states, “But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect”.
2 Timothy 4:2 (NIV) says this: “Preach the Word; be prepared
in season and out of season; correct, rebuke, and encourage-with great patience
and careful instruction.”
The bible teaches that Christians should be on guard to
defend the truth of the gospel at a moment’s notice. As such, the body of Christ is responsible
for teaching the youth not simply to believe in Christ by blind faith, but to
also show tangible evidence of the truths of God’s inspired word throughout the
history of mankind. Young Christians need a sound understanding of the truths
contained in the word of God. They need to know how to and where to look for
the evidence to support these biblical truths.
In this digital age, many resources are available to aid in
preparing our young Christian soldiers-in-training to do battle for their
beliefs. Web tools such as, “Crossexamined.org”
and the internet flipbook, “Gravity. True
for you, but Not for Me” are excellent resources. Such tools are designed
to educate young Christians on the importance of apologetics and provide historical
and modern proven evidence of the God’s truth.
With 75% of young Christians leaving the faith after high
school, we must ensure that the next generation is aptly equipped to defend the
faith at will. We cannot afford to lose our young soldiers due to inadequate
training. They must be properly equipped to take the battle to Satan, and to
defend the faith with honor and intelligence.

I enjoyed your blog "Preparing Our Christian Soldiers". I enjoyed the process of your blog with the youth heading out into the world but then realizes he's naked of weaponry...God's armor. Also, I agree with the line about Satan. I don't believe our kids realize the devil is behind the opposition that they face and they have the spiritual tools to take the devil out as well. You did a great job handling all the elements here.
Looking forward to reading more entries.
